Plans for a new £13 million 'Leicester and Leicestershire Institute of Technology (IoT) in Space, Digital, Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering' have leapt forward to the next stage of applications to be one of eight new IoTs in the UK.

If successful, the IoT would be a huge boost for the sector, skills development and the region, enhancing the our place at the forefront of the space and space technologies industry in the UK.

Linked to the new Space Park, the IoT is being led by the University of Leicester and De Montfort University and supported by a partnership of organisations comprising Leicester College, Stephenson College & Brooksby Melton College (The SMB Group), North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, the National Space Centre and employers including Airbus, Reaction Engines and WSP Engineering.

The focus for the IoT would be on STEM subjects, with qualifications ranging from T-Levels to postgraduate. The intent would be to work closely with businesses to develop the right skills needed for industry.
