Statement about MIPIM 2021

Updated: Mar 12, 2021

Team Leicester has just (11 March 2021) received the announcement from Reed MIDEM, that MIPIM 2021 will no longer be going ahead in June as planned, for logistical reasons surrounding safety and respective government cross-border restrictions of the movement of people. Whilst this is unfortunate, it was not unpredictable given the ongoing situation with Covid-19, both domestically and in France.

Although MIPIM is one of the primary reasons that Team Leicester originally formed, all the directors are very keen to ensure that moving forwards, MIPIM is not the only function of the partnership. As a result, a comprehensive and exciting programme of different events and activities that will take place over the course of 2021, has already been developed and will be released in the forthcoming weeks.

In addition, Team Leicester’s managing agency, Associate Events will continue to work with Reed MIDEM with a view to rolling forward all plans to 2022.

Rob McGuinn, chair of the Team Leicester partnership said, “It is a shame that MIPIM is being cancelled this year but given the pandemic situation is still ongoing to such an extent, it’s not really a surprise.

“MIPIM was one of reasons Team Leicester originally formed, but is not the only function of the company. The Directors of Team Leicester will continue and a comprehensive, enhanced and exciting programme of Leicester events planned for 2021, details of which will be released in the forthcoming weeks.

"We are keen to carry on working with partners, sponsors and other property and construction organisations to drive forward Team Leicester’s aims to bring the property and construction sector together and to help champion Leicester and Leicestershire’s investment potential.

"With regards to MIPIM 2022, Team Leicester already has events planned and booked and we will commence the run up to our return to Cannes this Autumn”

Richard Osborn, director of Team Leicester added, “Although it’s disappointing but not surprising, MIPIM is just one part of what we are hoping to achieve with Team Leicester. There are many ways of generating inward investment and publicity for our region, industry and businesses. Team Leicester will be continuing to forge ahead with our plans and we are looking forward to a busy year ahead.”
